Paris, France: No floral wallpaper
It's no longer a requirement for Parisian hotels to have creaky elevators, bad wallpaper, and affronted front desk clerks.
But it's unlikely you've ever stayed anywhere in Paris quite like HI Matic. It's a bit like an HGTV project that found its way to the City of Lights.
And yet, with rooms that start (at various times during the year) at 80 euros, you may well be charmed by the playroom chic colors, eco-friendly materials, free wifi, and included continental breakfast.
Not everyone will appreciate lodging that is meant to be fully automated (there is staff on hand if you need them). And it's not for those who need to know the thread count before they book. For those, though, looking for a memorably alternative Parisian base, HI Matic won't make you miss bad wallpaper at all.
