Granada, Nicaragua: Free spa treatments in a presidential palace
The recently-opened Hotel Spa Granada is lovely in a thousand ways: It occupies one of the largest still-intact colonial mansions in Granada's historic district (an 1802 manse that was built as a presidential palace), it has no fewer than five courtyard gardens (which makes the whole thing feel very indoor-outdoor) and it's smack in the middle of town near Parque Central—and Granada is a beautiful, history-filled town. You can even see the Mombacho Volcano from your balcony. Your enormous, pillared balcony. Possibly one of the two located just off your room.
But for us, here's the kicker: Each night booked at the hotel comes with a complimentary spa treatment. That's a potent draw which almost makes other touches, like sipping fresh-fruit cocktails at the bar overlooking the turquoise wrap-around laguna pool, moot. (Almost.)
If one massage or facial isn't enough for you in a 24-hour period, at these prices, go ahead and book five. Your 60-minute massage among the blossoms of a garden courtyard, complete with breezes off Lake Cocibolca, is $20.
Rooms start at $55 nightly, topping off at $165 for a deluxe suite (18-foot ceilings and a bathroom you could park your car in) in high season.
