Wales, UK: The 60s cult show revisited
Now that the 1960s cult TV classic The Prisoner starring Patrick McGoohan has gotten a swanky remake on AMC (with Jim Caviezel and no less than Ian McKellen), it's a perfect time to revisit the original, distinctly odd stomping grounds.
That would be, as Prisoner aficionados know well, the coastal village of Portmeirion, an early planned community which began to materialize by 1939. McGoohan played a secret agent taken to the village and held under mysterious circumstances never fully explained. You'll find the Welsh far more hospitable and you're free to visit (for the price of admission) and leave when you're ready.
